Located in Petitenget on Bali south-western shore, the five-bedroom Villa Sakti is perfect for families and groups of friends seeking a serene, secure setting with easy access to the buzz of Seminyak.

With four pavilions set around a fabulous 18-metre pool, the villa offers abundant living space, a palatial master bedroom and four large guest bedrooms.  It is less than a kilometre to the beach and Bali celebrated restaurants and bars are only a short walk away, but with a well-stocked wine cellar and a professional chef among the seven-strong staff, there may be little reason to leave.

Sakti means supernatural power in the Indonesian language, a fitting name for an enchanting villa that casts its magic at first sight.

Villa Sakti successfully blends contemporary and traditional Bali style in a series of individual pavilions designed by noted Bali-based architect Joost Van Grieken and enriched with stunning Asian antiques and artefacts collected by the villa owner from across the Indonesian archipelago.  Chic interiors are accented with oriental carpets on gleaming hardwood floors, precious gold-threaded Songkets, statues lining pink-hued Lombok stone walls, all complemented by more contemporary features like Bose sound system and flat-screen TVs.

Families and groups of friends will love the generous and convivial living space at Villa Sakti which includes an air-conditioned living and dining room, large open-sided dining pavilion, and second living area in the guest pavilion, all facing the inviting 18-metre pool.  The privacy-enhancing layout of the bedrooms will also appeal to those who appreciate having their own breathing space; two of the guest bedrooms share a separate pavilion, each of the two second-floor guest rooms are accessed via their own staircases, and one also boasts a private terrace.  The master suite, meanwhile, takes up the entire upper floor of the living pavilion and is a gloriously glamorous room with sitting area and equally spacious dressing room and ensuite.

Securely set in a private residential estate with 24-hour security, this peaceful oasis is less than a kilometre from the beach and within walking distance of some of Bali best restaurants and bars; Sarong, rated among top 20 restaurants in Asia is a mere five minutes walk from the villa.

Named after Bali flowers found in the garden, Villa Sakti five bedrooms are individually designed and full of personality with a fascinating collection of artworks and facts contrasting with 21st Century comforts that include King Koil mattresses, clip-op bedtime reading lights, Bose iPod docks, 32-inch TVs and DVD players.  All have air-conditioning and full-length glazed doors and windows that can be flung open to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living.

Master bedroom
Kamboja, the magnificent master bedroom, takes up the entire top floor of the living pavilion.  This expanse of space features a wall of pink Lombok stone, ceiling-to-floor windows looking onto the pool, and burnished wood floors stretching almost 12 metres under a soaring teak-lined roof.  There is a comfy seating area facing the TV and an imposing ikat, one of many Asian antiques in the suite.
Equally large is the adjoining dressing room and ensuite bathroom, which incorporates a large vanity area with twin basins and a walk-in rain shower.

Guest bedrooms
The guest pavilion houses the Melati and Anggrek bedrooms, offering a choice of king-size or twin beds as well as a window-seat that doubles as a spare bed.  The decor is exotic, with red Chinese wardrobes and framed songket weavings. In the bathrooms square basins are set on suar-wood counters and rain showers accord alfresco bathing in pebbled courtyards.
A king-size bed oriented to face the pool takes pride of place in the Cempaka guest suite.  Attractively proportioned, with bengkirai-wood floors under a vaulted roof with ceiling fan, this suite features an ensuite bathroom with semi-open-air rain shower.
A small courtyard in the corner of the garden leads up to a private patio with seating and, beyond sliding doors, the Jempiring guest suite.  Inside is a king-size bed, sitting area facing a 32-inch TV, antique Chinese furniture, a small library of books and an imposing desk.  The ensuite bathroom is air-conditioned, with a wall of wardrobes and a walk-in shower.

The social hub of Villa Sakti is the living and dining room, where three sides of glass doors can slide back for tropical open-air living, or be closed for air-conditioned cool.  Ten guests can dine in style around the handsome suar-wood table, or gather in the formal sitting area backed by a wall of pink Lombok stone (which cunningly conceals an exceptionally well stocked wine cellar).  A lacquer-ware armoire contains a fine selection of DVDs, and the cabinet housing the 37-inch TV and DVD players swivels so that guests can watch movies from anywhere in the room.  Behind a sliding door of handmade paper set between glass is the well-equipped kitchen with central island and breakfast bar.

Just off the living room and linked by a covered walkway is the open-sided dining pavilion.  A round dining table with wicker armchairs accords elegant dining for eight and, on a lower level, a cushion-covered banquette with side tables of fossilised wood faces the pool.

Separating the two bedrooms in the guest pavilion is a large fan-cooled open living area with a built-in sofa and teak-wood armchairs around an enormous coffee table.  Behind is a library with shelves of books, magazines and games as well as a computer for guest use.

Outside, sun loungers, parasols, and weathered teak-wood armchairs invite guest to relax on the poolside sundeck.  Three fountains set into a feature wall of pink Lombok stone spout streams of water into the 18-metre swimming pool within a beautifully tended garden tinted with tropical blooms shaded by mature trees.

Dining is a highlight of a stay at Villa Sakti, which offers three levels of food service: snacks, light meals, and full lunch and dinner.  Guests can choose from an extensive and reasonably priced menu of home-style Indonesian, Asian and international dishes that cater to all tastes, as well as vegetarian options and children favorites.  Barbecue and set menus - and an excellent wine menu - are also available.  Among the favorites are Spanish tapas, ikan pepes (fish in Balinese spices wrapped and steamed in banana leaf), sate lilit (minced chicken sate on lemongrass stick), and seared pepper tuna.

The accomplished personal chef is happy to tailor meals to accommodate any special dietary requirements, prepare off-menu items or whip up a gourmet meal for up to 10 guests, should you wish to host a diner party while at Villa Sakti.

Guests enjoy an excellent complimentary cooked breakfast with free-flow coffee and tea throughout the day.
